I believe that strong communities are built around good food. I see the Granite City Grocery as an import part in building a strong Barre community.
For the last four years I have focused my energy on finding ways to improve my city. I believe that strong communities are the key to a vibrant city. At the heart of the city is the downtown and our downtown is missing a piece. Barre is a small city as well as a small food desert. The piece that we are missing is access to food. Since the closure of Grand Union in 2000 Barre residents have been leaving town to buy groceries. When I first heard about the founding of a food co-op in Barre I saw it as the next piece in building a better Barre.
